The English Literary Society of Japan is one of the oldest and largest academic societies in the humanities field in Japan.
It was founded more than ninety years ago to promote the studies in English literature (British, American and of other English-speaking nations) and in philology and linguistics here in Japan.
Our main activities are the Annual General Meeting (which is held in May) and the publication of Studies in English Literature (a Japanese number is published in November and an English number in March every year).
The current membership is about four thousands and includes leading scholars in Japan. Its seven branches, which cover the whole country, are very active as well.
