The 81st ELSJ Annual General Meeting

23 May 2009 Due to the quick spread of the swine flu ("novel influenza A (H1N1)") in Japan, it is uncertain still whether this year's Annual General Meeting can possibly be held as scheduled. The ELSJ's policy for the moment is as follows:

• As long as conditions permit, all the symposia and paper-reading sessions are going to be held as planned.
  But Tokyo University may suddenly decide to prohibit the use of Komaba Campus. Please keep informed of the updates through Tokyo University's website. You are also recommended to come back to this page before you leave for the venue.
• It is known that the "new influenza A" has serious effects specially on those who are diabetic or pregnant. Diabetic and pregnant members are strongly recommended to stop coming to the venue.
  If you are going to read a paper at the meeting and and have misgivings about your health, please get in touch with Professor Kazuyoshi Ohishi, Conference Organizing Secretary, as early as possible. Panelists are supposed to consult the organizer of the symposium.
  Even if the Meeting is decided to be cancelled, the executive and conference boards of ELSJ will take possible measures so that the decision may not be academically disadvantageous to the expected speaker.
• We do recommend every participant to protect him/herself against the swine flu virus by resorting to such well-known means as washing hands, gargling and wearing a medical mask.
• The Reception Party is cancelled. Those who registered their attendance beforehand are going to obtain a full refund.

The 81st ELSJ Annual General Meeting is to be held at Komaba Campus of Tokyo University on 30-31 May 2009. Pre-registration is not necessary: ELSJ members can just come to the venue and attend any sessions. Please do not fail to bring your copy of the Programme, which is delivered to you by the end of March (we can't provide a replacement copy for free).

A Reception Party is scheduled on the first day evening (30th May Saturday 5.15-7.15pm). If you would like to join it, prior booking is strongly recommended. Please use the booking form on the link page below. You need to prepay the attendance fee by 13th May Wednesday. Any sort of additional handling fees should be borne by you. When we receive the fees, your reservation will be confirmed.

Non members can also have access to any paper-reading sessions and symposia by acquiring One-Day Membership. Please visit the Reception Desk ("sogo-uketsuke") first and buy a copy of the Programme for 1,000 yen. And do not lose the receipt! If you decide to join the ELSJ afterwards, please quote the receipt number. The ELSJ will give you a thousand-yen's reduction from your first Annual Membership Fee.
